I have not used an Olympus digital camera in more than a dozen years; my recent digitals were Canon and Panasonic. I found the TG-4 menu structure unintuitive to a Canon and Panasonic user.

For those of you who have difficulty setting the slave flash on the TG-4:

  • Turn on the camera
  • Press the menu button until the "Camera Menu 1" shows up (that's typically 1 button press)
  • Left arrow button (this is the non-intuitive part for me--allows you to select the different submenus)
  • Down arrow button (to Camera menu 2)
  • OK button (selects Camera menu 2)
  • Down arrow button (to Accessory settings)
  • OK button (Selects Accessory settings)
  • OK on Remote Flash
  • Scroll to Slave setting
  • OK to set to Slave
  • Menu multiple times to back out.
This gives you an additional context-sensitive flash setting, in addition to forced on/forced of/red-eye/auto/etc.

Hope this helps
