Looks like a possible blackout... no mention of a buddy. Rough day offshore too.
Peace be with you brother.

KEY LARGO—
Authorities say a 19-year-old from Miami died while free diving
and spear fishing offshore of the Upper Keys.

Monroe County Sheriff's officials say the accident happened
Sunday near the lighthouse at Tennessee Reef. The teen was with friends on a
private vessel. When he failed to resurface after a dive, his friends called the
sheriff's office.

The sheriff's dive team responded, along with the U.S.
Coast Guard
and the Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The teen's body was recovered and taken to the medical examiner's
office.

Shaft line/gun clipped to the diver.

Shaft shot and stuck into a rock.

No cutter.

RIP.

Thanks Johnoly. Below is the official story:

A good diver always carries a knife when diving, especially spearfishing and freediving!

Miami Teen Died Spearfishing In Upper Keys « CBS Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Family and friends are remembering South Florida teen who died in a spearfishing accident.
Erick Diaz, 19, was snorkeling and spearfishing with a cousin from a private boat Sunday at Tennessee Reef when he failed to surface, according to authorities.

Another cousin Derick Diaz, who was not on the weekend trip described Erick as “really good diver” who had been diving since he was young.
Derick said he and Erick grew up together and said Erick was a “good kid” who loved to have fun.
“He loved to ride motorcycles, we’d ride horses together, he always had such a good smile, big heart,” he said.

Members of the sheriff’s office dive team recovered Diaz body and it was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
