What is the best way to mount a Scout backup light to a shoulder strap? I assume that some sort of snap would connect the to the D-ring and some other method would be used, perhaps surgical tubing, to keep it from flopping around.

Any help, especially a picture, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

www.wkpp.org and www.northeastdir.com have some
"equipment images" links that should be helpful.

what might NOT be easily seen is the bicycle-inner-tube
loops that are on the shoulder straps. These loops are
threaded onto the harness straps (and you'll probably
have to un-thread the harness to do it) and the lights
are held up under your arm-pit by stretching a loop over
the light.

you can avoid having to un-thread/re-thread by using a
tied off piece of surgical-tubing or shock-cord. whatever
you find most convenient.

if you DO unthread/rethread ... do yourself a favor and
place several inner-tube loops on the harness. that way
you'll have 'backups' in case of breakage.

Thanks,

A picture is worth a thousand words. A was wondering how to connect the swivel snap to the through hole on the casing. It looks like in both pictures (thanks for the links), a simple piece of nylon cord is used.

Cave line tied between the bolt snap and the light... use several loops...

Or

Nylon zip tie...

Tip: a drop of super glue on the knot of the cave line will keep it from ever coming undone.

I use the "melt and smush" technique.

Roak

1)-Use a stainless snap bolt.
2)-Use #24 cave line and make 4 passes through the snap bolt and the eye on the Scout.
3)-tie a square knot on one side, turn it over and tie another square knot on the other side.
4)-Use the roakey method of securing line ie. melt and smush the ends to keep from fraying. But you could also use UP's method.

Hope this helps.

What if anything would be wrong with using a SS Split Ring to connect the scout to the swivel snap?

On an equipment configuration post someone mentioned that they had no metal to metal connections. Is there a reason for this? If so, are SS snaps connections to the SS D-rings on a BC or harness an issue?

Thanks,
Mike

If the clip were to jam, you can always cut or rip the light away. With a split ring, you can't.
