My son ( who is 11 just passed his junior open water ) and I did about a dozen shore dives last year without a problem. I needed to help him across some the more rocky surfaces but it was fine. Boats dives on Bonaire are great for the harder to reach dive spots. I didn't do any boat dives with my son last year because I wasn't sure about his air consumption and depth restrictions and I didn't want to hold back a group of more experienced divers. With the shore dives we did everything at our own pace.

We've been to Bonaire 5x and never done a boat dive. We keep saying we're going to, but it's so relaxing and chill to do whatever we want, whenever we want, and not worry about schedules, that we end up not wanting to make the reservations and go! The one time we had decided to sign up for one, they'd canceled it for that day due to no one else signing up, so we took that as a sign and continued our shore dives. :)
