Well, my third battery -- a Sony -- has now died, after 16 days. So, to summarize:
  • The original battery died after 4 weeks (sorry, didn't get the make)
  • A Radio Shack battery lasted 2 days
  • A new Sony battery lasted 16 days.
This is all without diving -- i.e. the computer has been in watch mode the whole time, apart from a couple of times I was playing with it, all on the first battery. I tried the trick of shorting the contacts (thoroughly) when I put the Sony in.

So, I guess that's a return. :crying2:

mine as of now is still doing ok, running on the 3rd wk on the 1st battery replacement but it seems there are a lot of us having problem with GEO... posting the serial number, battery brand and no. days it worked might lead into some usefull info. in solving the problem, something like this :

SN Orig. Batt. 1st 2nd 3rd ....th

1) 999999 Sony/30days Pana/30 Renata/30

what do you think guys ? is it ok to post the serial no.?

just now my GEO sunddenly died, just on the 3rd wk from replacing the new battery...this problem seems to be inherent on the GEO , i'll try to check today with my LDS what to do but probably I will besending it back to GEO USA.

I am going to send my geo back to Oceanic, I just bought a new geo, not the 2.0, and now have the messed up one as a spare. I bought the new one at a great price due to the new geos' coming out and I bought it new from my LDS so it has full warranty. Hopefully Oceanic will be able to fix my other one or at least replace it with a refurbashed one.

I'm interested in getting a firmware update. How did you get yours tato, through e-mail?
I got the Geo´s firware update from Mark Lane @ Oceanic. It´s a zip file, if you want it here you go.

Sorry Jamram the zip file won´t upload as it´s 4 MB (too big for this site). If you need it i could send it to an e-mail address...

I just got this reply back from Technical Support

Dear Jason,

Depending on which firmware version you currently have, it may be possible to update the firmware yourself. To check your firmware revision, use the Mode (upper left) button to place the Geo into NORM mode. Once in NORM, simultaneously press and hold the Advance (lower left) and Select (upper right) buttons, which will bring you to the SET menu headings. If you continue to hold the two buttons, you will see SET F, SET A, SET U, and finally the serial number screen. The serial number screen will also indicate the firmware revision; you will see something like “sn 012345, r.1C.”

If your Geo’s firmware is revision 1B or higher, you should be able to do the firmware update yourself, using your USB interface cable. If you have a revision 1A unit, or do not have the USB interface cable, we can bring the Geo back to the factory for the update.

Let me know which firmware version you have, and I can either send you the update software or issue a Return Authorization to bring the mask back to the factory for the update. This update should address the problem you have experienced.

Regards,
Mark Lane
