OMS emergency shears

Was wondering whether anyone had an opinion about these shears by OMS. I like the idea of not having finger holes, and I'm optimistic all the parts are SS.

I bet the spring is NOT stainless, and based on experience using the hardware type shears, the spring WILL come off and be lost. Look at how the spring just sits on the pegs. I like the regular EMT shears a lot better. No loose parts to lose, and they work great. Just my .02 psi, YMMV.

I would go with the EMT shears, mainly becuase I acquire them fairly easily, and as for strength they will cut a penny in half. What can I say I used to be at a slow station.

I carry a pair of gardening shears pretty much the same thing except the spring is “locked” into the handle nipples. Losing the spring was my concern and when I saw the pair I have at home depot and the fact the spring is "locked" in place I bought them $19.00. Care is pretty much like any other object used in water clean it and rub it down with some light oil like hoppes number 9 (gun oil) or wd 40, mine have yet to rust. If I lose them a trip to home depot on the way home after the dive. I had to do the test on them just make sure and they cut spyder wire and 18 gauge wire (all I had laying around the house) with out a problem like a hot knife thru butter lol. They are also easy to sharpen on a hand held knife sharpener to, my set is razor sharp. If they are not “locked” or clipped in some five minute water proof epoxy would glue the spring on for good.

My vote is for the EMT shears, here you can get them for a couple of bucks, so after a week of salt water diving I usually replace them with a new pair. I always have a few in my first aid kit and save a dive kit.

I use Tri-Flow for all my scuba gear since the petroleum distillates in it are more volatile than WD-40 and leave little if any residue while still providing the flow characteristics needed to penetrate parts.

I'll stick with my EMT shears.

Good call markfm, I only use silicon food grade lubricants to spray down my dive knife and shears after a dive.

Well gang, I went with the EMT shears and have a complaint. They advertise you can cut a U.S. penny with it, so of course I tried. After all, I may be burried at sea under a pile of pennies and need to cut my way out. Well, I suppose it is possible, but it takes all your strength to do it. What we need are shears that cut easier through pennies!

You are 100% wrong on this one bud. What we need are pennies that are easier to cut through
