Hello,

I was wondering if they still give 'o2 tollerance' test to divers and if it would be worthwile to take one.

Ed

Dear Ed:

I was taught in 1985 that the Royal Navy had discontinued Oxygen Tolerance Tests several years before because they were so unreliable as regards individual susceptibility. I do not know if the US Navy still performs them.

When divers called to the Institute of Applied Physiology and Medicine in Seattle when I was there, I always told them that the Tolerance Test was not worth bothering with.

I heard very recently (can't recall the source) that the US Navy still uses the tests but there is now a recommendation to drop them becuase they are unreliable and a waste of money.
