I think exertion in the water plays a big role...go body surfing for 3 hours...you will be ready for a nap...cooler water seems to heighten thim...imo.

The soporific effect is out of proportion to the degree of exercise, and the two theories I read were: 1. effect of nitrogen which acts as an anesthetic and 2. effect of microbubbles.
 
Dives are 50-60 minutes.

I dont think it is physical exertion. I am in decent shape. The tanks are the only heavy things and they are usually already on the boat. Once underwater, swimming around feels effortless. Only mild kicking and my breathing stays very relaxed.

I can tell i get cold sometimes because instead of holding my hands away from my body, usually one hand grabbing the other wrist, I prefer to cross them and squeeze them in to my chest. No shivering but I might have goosebumps.

Temperature may very well be a contributing factor but I strongly suspect the bigger factor is the nitrogen.

I am going to work on slower ascents and see if that helps.
