This episode of giant reed hasn't been as bad as the one in the late 90's. We had volunteers out on our beaches for ages trying to prevent that damned stuff from establishing here. It is apparently a native of coastal Asia. I wrote about it briefly in this week's "Dive Dry with Dr. Bill" column on my website.
