Dove at Colomitos and Los Arcos today. Conditions were very nice! Temperature still about 70F / 21C and viz about 50 feet at shallower depths. Didn't dive deep today, as we had Open Water and Rescue Diver students.

Off to Marietas tomorrow...

February 2nd and 3rd

Yesterday Marietas. Awsome! 70 feet visibility below the thermocline. Tons of whales (literally) and mantas on the way there and back. The ride out and back was quite rough. Plenty of wind and some nice swells kept us wet on our way back.

Today Colomitos. Big change. Red tide came in so we could't see further than our noses (figure of speech). We did the second dive at Los Arcos and encountered better visibility, maybe 15 feet. We're expecting better conditions in a couple of days when the seas calm down a bit.

February 5th.

First dive at Majahuitas and second at Colomitos.

The sea has calmed down and the conditions have begun to improve. Today's viz around 15-20 ft. We expect by tomorrow the viz will be back to normal, about 30 feet above the thermocline and 70+ below it.

will keep you posted...

whew! back to work after a few days off.

Went back to Los Arcos today. We took it slow getting there since it was windy and with larger-than-usual swells. Weather was beautiful: sunny and air temperature in the lower 80s.

Minimum temperature today was 68F / 20C at 48 feet. Viz was about 20 feet. There was a bit of surge that kept us on our toes during the Peak Performance Buoyancy training that we did today.

The whales are still here. On the way back we stopped for a few minutes to observe big momma and her tiny (about 2 tons) baby.

The water has cleared up. 50 feet viz at Colomitos today. Temp 66F / 19C.

A very interesting feature at Colomitos are the sand "streams". At a certain point the sand is so steep that we see small strems of sand flowing downwards. It's quite amazing.

Also so several huge moray eels, a lobster "graveyard" (we presume a local octopus is feasting on the haples creatures, and the usual array of tropical fish.

My favorite dive again today: Devil's Canyon at Los Arcos National Underwater Park. Viz 100+ feet at 90ft depth. Temp 75F / 24C at the surface and 62F / 16C at 90ft.

Saw the largest school of barberfish ever. My guess 400 - 500 of the beautiful creatures.

we'll keep you updated...

Weather has been beautiful: clear, sunny skies with temperature ranging from 63F in the early morning to 80-82F midday (bring your sunscreen).

Diving conditions fairly even the last few days: great viz (70ft+) and cooler water below the thermocline (lower 60s), lower viz at depths 30-40ft.

Overall I'd say a very nice diving experience.

Dove Las Colomitas with PV Scuba; Alex, Ramses and the boat captain Moises all very helpful and easy going. First dive, sloped sandy bottom eventually to 65 feet lots of small rays, puffer fish, sergeant majors and other small schooling fish, morays, 3 octopi, a Langostino graveyard (17 empty shells, {3 octopi?}) and a river of sand. Ramses pointed out this sand fall coming down a steep drop maybe 30 yards off the beach and said it is constant, fascinating. 72-65 water temp, visibility 20-30 feet
