Can anyone explain what this Mantis shrimp is doing? I filmed this on an early morning dive on the way to film jawfish eggs hatching - I've never seen it happen again and I don't know anyone that's ever seen it either!?

He's been drinking!

- Hasn't sorted out his correct weighting and buoyancy control ..

- Showing off as he's more agile than you underwater ..

or more likely -

- Trying to look like he's in trouble/dying to attract some of the smaller shrimps to him so he can grab and eat ?

watch sec 3 4 and 5 the hardest.
it is at the bottom of a somersault with its back towards the camera tail up.
you can see the movement of its claw.

as it comes around and goes into the next somersult there is no movement

considering the video I posted I am convinced it is eating.
you can also hear a noise, at the same time, it is not the back ground noise.
check it out.

Very interesting video. I did see the claw seem to snap once.
