Does anyone have any links that have articles or market statistics of the scuba industry? Any links to research or increase/decrease in the number of recreational divers would be appreciated.

Daniel: Very good post. Since the US now has a population that is 300,000,000 people we can see that diving continues to decline and new divers equal less than 1/10th of 1 percent of the general population. I have hoped, for 30+ years, that we can turn on at least 1 percent, 3,000,000 people per annum to our great sport. Diving is world wide, transcends cultures, etc. If we worked together, instead of the usual slams against the "other" store, or brand, or agency, maybe we would move forward.
