EXACTLY... That is the SAME american attitude we are always talking about... It's as though you guys have no respect for anyone else's contries

HAHAHAH

This coming from St. Lucia??

The French are the most disgusting people to travel in the presence of.

I have traveled many different places, and I couldnt agree with you saying that americans have no respect for other countries.

We are a nation of freethinkers, not sheep, and if wearing gloves is not going to harm anything, then we will wear gloves no matter what the regulations say.

Thank you Racket for taking our stock up a notch with the rest of the world.

There is a stiff wind blowing, guess I'll go out and p155 into it. It will have the same effect as posting to this lot.

I notice none of you regulation followers claimed to drive 55 all the time either...interesting...yeah, the French. Obviously (as with Americans or any other culture) there are good and bad everywhere. I know many good, solid, friendly French people. However some look down their noses at you just because you are an American, which makes them bigots, and morons. How about we try bathing every once in awhile (especially when you'll be in an airplane) and NOT chain smoking in any place you feel like it. I like the French in general (I love Paris), but their insistence on being recognized as a "world power" rather than the second rate socialist economy that they are is annoying.

There are a lot of things they should outlaw in diving before gloves. How about smoking on the boat? Not only is it dangerous (Boom) but unhealthy for everyone else. How about the idiots that don't know how to dive? Let's outlaw them too, and any instructor or DM that brings them along.

As far as "the rest of the world," when the rest of the world pays its own bills without sticking its hand out for our financial subsidies, I'll care more about what they have to say. As long as they are living on our money at least in part, they should just shut up. Like one should care about what St. Lucia has to say about anything...sheesh...

Can't wait to use my new gloves in Cozumel and Cayman this year!!!!! Wooohoooo!!!!

Ah, thank God you all know what's best for these dive areas. I mean the rule is dumb, so why should you abide by it? After all, it's your opinion and what's best for you that matters. Screw everyone else. What's next? "I know it's not lobster season, but there are plenty of lobster down there" or "so what if the fish I just chased around stresses and dies, there are lots of fish in the ocean". You can self rationalize anything you want. This is why no one has any respect for anyone else any more. Wonder why much of the world hates Americans? Its this exact attitude. How would you feel about the guy that steals your gear because "you're rich, you can afford new gear" or "they had 3 TV's, they can afford for me to take one". I bet your the first one incensed and complaining about the lawlessness in the country.

Don't like the rule, don't dive there. Don't like a law? Get the law changed. Blatant disregard for law and order is why people think somehow it's OK to kill a store clerk or a campus full of people because they are upset with how things are. I know, its a long stretch from wearing gloves to murder. But the basic principal is the same: Do you have any respect for anything that is contrary to what you deem important, or is it OK to do what you think you should do, regardless of what laws, rules or even common sense dictates?

You're kidding, right? You're comparing wearing gloves to stealing and murder? So, I take it then that you follow every single rule and regulation that exists, no matter how picayune. Then maybe you should check your grammar and spelling, because that is breaking rule's. So, you'd better get youself in check before you go postal and start going after people who cross the solid yellow line. You mention respect and common sense; please try these concepts.

While i agree the attitude is poor (and the attitude of its government is even worse) thats got nothing to do with gloves or no gloves.

St Lucia doesn't allow gloves. OK fair enough, its an utterly retarded law so people should just not go there and put their money somewhere else that actually has laws that make sense. Thats about all there is to say to that.

I'm not comparing glove wearing to murder. Nor did I say everyone must follow every law/rule all the time. What I did say was that too many people make self-serving decisions regarding what seem to be minuscule laws and rules, and that specific attitude can and has escalated to the point where many people, far too many people, rationalize their behavior regardless of the outcome. What I also said was that the OP has choices, one of which being to dive somewhere without those rules. He also has the choice to try and change the rules.

If I do break a law I am willing to face the consequences. I know the rules and I know there may be a penalty. What I don't do is go on a public forum and promote the breaking of those laws and rules with no more justification than the OP. What entitlement does he have to deciding if he should follow the local laws and customs? The only ones stated were his desire and the fact that he is paying to dive there. Big deal. Show me how the no glove rule is unsafe and maybe I'll change my opinion. I doubt you will find too many cases of hypothermia in the warm water climate locations where these rules are usually enacted.

As far as respect and common sense, I don't see where I've disrespected anyone, and I don't see how advocating respect for another country's laws is not common sense.

Then maybe you should check your grammar and spelling, because that is breaking rule's. So, you'd better get youself in check before you go postal and start going after people who cross the solid yellow line.

You misspelled "yourself" (youself) and "rules" (rule's) does not need an apostrophe. :D

As far as going after someone for crossing over the solid yellow line, In most cases that would mean they are heading into oncoming traffic. That's a very dangerous situation, wouldn't you agree?
