Joyce, I just read this today and am so very sorry for your loss. As you may remember, I lost my Dad a few years ago... although he was not my dive buddy, I certainly know the pain.
 
Here's a pic of an interesting artifact that my father recovered during his diving days up in New England.

It was from the USS New Hampshire, sister ship of Old Ironsides, where they got the Paul Revere spikes and these small nails which were used to hold the copper sheeting under the hull of the ship.
 
I thought of your father today as I read his 1950's Explorer's Hand Book. It was fun to catch a glimpse of what Scouting was all about back then.
