I think the answer to the original wuestion is location dependant-the U.S. or another part of the world.
See what is in general use for where you are going to dive and use that color.
For a rec diver here in the U.S. an orange SMB would be a good choice.
A Tec diver would have a yellow DSMB to indicate a problem or to make a request for gas, etc. that would be coordinated in advance so everyone would know what it means.
 
Im not diving in Europe so I am not going to apply their standards to my DSMB choices diving the rest of the world. I own and use yellow, orange and red DSMB's. Choice is based on the appropriate size and type rather than color for me.
