...but if I don't get a response by Tuesday I'm going to look for other dive shops. I don't like unresponsive LDS's...especially when you are trying to plan a trip.

I agree. I'm sure they get a lot of questions from a lot of people, but most of the better dive shops I've dealt with are usually real good about getting information back to you within just a day or two, or at least sending you to a website with a very good FAQ section.

DivingPrincessE,
The email in Dominica can be pretty flaky, perhaps they never received your request.

Doug

OK good to know, thanks! If I don't hear from them by tomorrow I'll send a second email with "second request" in the title. Maybe barbados has the same issue.

St. Maarten diving isn't the greatest, but if you're there it's still worth doing. I'd actually recommend Ocean Explorers on the Dutch side. Haven't dove with them personally, but I understand it's now run by a guy named Jefferson who was a spectacularly skilled, passionate, and friendly divemaster at Dive Safaris when my wife and I were in St. Maarten in 2005, and from what I hear they've kept it small (6-8 people on the boat type of deal).

We've also dove with Pro Divers out of St. Kitts, although in that case it was because they were the op that came out and met the Windjammer (Polynesia) cruise. Austin was the main guy's name, and I think Margot was his wife? Anyway, that was much earlier in our diving life, so we were renting everything, but we sincerely enjoyed the dives.

I don't have advice on the other islands in the OP's list, but am watching this thread closely - starting to collect ideas for a spring 2008 trip and right now Dominica is high on my interest list along with Belize or one of the ABCs...

What's the weather and visibility usually like that time of the year, and what arrangement could you make for myself and my two daughters from the ship for a single tank dive? How does St Kitts compare to the other Islands, ( if you had the chance to ), and what would you recommend after St kitts?

Thanks again,
Steve

Hello Steve,

Making arrangements are easy. Just send an email to brbh@sisterisles.kn and we will make all of the arrangements for your transfers to and from. Weather in the Caribbean tends to be really good in April. I highly recommend visiting at that time of year. When you write specify the date and the ships name so that we can ensure proper pick ups. It would be great to have you all join us for a dive but even better for two. We tend to be done our morning dives by 12:30. This leaves lots of time for other exploring (beaches, shopping, Casino, eating..)
St Kitts is healthy reefs and wrecks. Good vis and warm water. very professional operators. Check out our website. Dive St. Kitts, Scuba Diving Services it has lots of information.
Give Dive Dominica a try as well. Real pretty there too
Let us know

Ok I finally heard back from Hightide in Barbados, and I sent another email to Dive Dominica.

Here is Hightide's response

DougY must have been spot-on because I just sent Dive Dominica my second email and they responded within minutes.

So sorry, but we did have a huge thunder storm on Friday and Saturday and my service when down so I must have lost all messages then.

To answer your question, no we do not have pm dives. This is what I can do for you, I can tentatively book you and by the end of January or February, I should have others enquiries for April, as we do need a minimum of at least 4 to run our dive boat.

I do not see any reason why I would not be able to get 4 paxs for April 1 but it's a good length of time away.

I will email you by the end of January and let you know if I have received any other bookings.

It would be a pm dive - for Check in time of 1:00 pm
2 tank boat dives with taxes $88.00 US
Marine Reserve Fee of $4.00 US

All pp prices.

I do hope this helps.

Sooo...they didn't really answer my questions about whether or not they would pick people up at the pier or when/how much I would have to pay (i.e. would I have to pay for the entire dive up front when I book it). Oh well, at least they responded and I guess we'll just have to wait and see how much interest there is. I'm sure there will be a lot because from this thread and others it seems like Dominca is one of the best (if not the best) places to dive on our itinerary.

Thoughts? (About Dominica and/or everything else posted)

It's not diving related but I would proceed directly to the bar at Shirley Heights in Antigua..... and have some kind of an emergency plan in the event that you don't make it back to the ship in time.

It's been a while but from what I recall, it's fairly close to where the cruise ships dock as it over looks English Harbor. You will need a cab though.

I'll spend the next couple of days trying to sort through iteneraries and see what we can decide on doing. Any reason why you'd like p.m. instead of a.m. for Dominica? Doesn't matter to me, just curious.

Well we don't dock at Dominica until 10:00 am and most dive ops (including Dive Dominica aka Castle Comfort) have their morning dive leave between 8:00 am-9:00 am...so we wouldn't be able to make it. Thus forcing us to opt for an afternoon dive.
