Hi all,

How can I tell if a Scubapro 1st stage is a MK10 or MK10Plus?

Can anybody post some photos of each piston?

Thanks in advance,

Carlos Carvalho

If the seat retainer is smooth chrome like the rest of the reg body, then it is an original Mk10. If it is that rough chrome finish like most new Scubapro 1sts, then it is a Mk10+.

This is a bad MK10 PLUS piston made of brass; you can tell by looking at the stem. Because brass is soft, it wears quickly resulting in IP creep. The good ones are made of stainless steel.

Awap & Zung: Thanks for your help.

Is this a good stainless steel MK10 PLUS piston? I’ve attached some photos.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos Carvalho

Yes, it's the good one made of stainless steel.

While it's out, you may want to beg, borrow or steal a jeweler's loupe and take a look at the stem: any small nicks can be polished out with very very fine sand paper (over 600 grit). Just don't over do it. Search the DIY section for "halocline" and "micro-mesh".

Or if you have a very old manual focus webcam, you can take nice macro pictures of it.
