Does anybody use a shop that accepts Alloy 6345 tanks that they have inspected/eddy/hydro-ed themselves?

MI ADVENTURES SCUBA DOES NOT! Rather wimpy cop-out, obviously he is not an engineer and doesn't really trust his own inspection.

I can't give you an answer regarding the self inspected etc. tanks. I would think whether someone accepts your tanks would depend on whether you are currently certified to do the inspections etc.

As for dive shops in SE Michigan and specifically the Ann Arbor area I can help. I've been diving for several years and have connections / friends / experience with several dive shops. My preference is for Sea the World. Note I have the same disclaimer as Detroit Diver. :D

Ann Arbor has two shops - Huron SCUBA and Diver's Inc. I haven't had much experience with Huron SCUBA. The new owner of Diver's Inc. is great. I'd frequent the shop more regularly if I lived / worked closer.

I have used http://www.scubashops.net/ in the past to locate SCUBA stores. I just checked and it says the site is temporarily down. Hopefully that is the case. When the sites works it gives a listing of LDS's by state / citiy.

Found another link. There's no date to say how current the data is. I know not all the shops listed are still in business. A couple have changed owners / names but are in the same location. Either way, it's a good place to start.

Another shop to try that isn't so far from you is Aquatic Adventures in Brighton. They probably aren't on the list as they opened a few years ago.

I thought a list of dive shops in the GLWC area would be a valuable resource so I started the thread, here. Without input from the locals, however, the list is largely pointless. How about everyone take a couple of minutes and jot down some information about a couple of your favorite shops? Send the info to TCDiver1, who took over the maintenance duties on the list when I turned in my moderator hat.

The 6351 alloy tanks are not just made using a crack-prone alloy but they are also getting up there in years/cycles and there are an increasing number of shops that are refusing to fill them - no matter what. Like you, I took a time-out from diving for an extended period and returning was an eye-opening (and eye-popping) experience. Good luck.

Great idea! Thanks. Does anyone know where you can get O2 fills in the Detroit area?

Just got back from SEATHEWORLD, http://www.seatheworld.org/. Craig is truly great. Even though the Trade in has expired on the Luxfer Alloy 6345 tanks, he gave me $75 credit per tank using my old valves (which have nothing wrong with them). Confronted with having to replace the tanks sooner or later and paying for extra inspections in the meantime, I am extremely happy.

Diver's Inc, http://www.diversinc.com/ , responding by email, said that they would in fact inspect, hydro, and fill my old tanks. However, they only recommended that I replace them. There was no offer of trade in value.

SEA The World has my business for the forseable future...

Sea the World will do O2, trimix, and argon.

I've done some business Huron Scuba. Highly recommend them.
