Diver reported missing in the Marlborough Sounds

A diver is missing in the Marlborough Sounds and emergency services are at the scene.

The person was diving off a boat near Stephens Island but was reported overdue about 10.20am on Saturday.

Senior Sergeant Claire Robertson, of Tasman Police, said police were working with St John and Coastguard Marlborough to find the person.

The conditions in the area were calm, she said.

diver has been found on the sea floor and recovered- the area he was diving has very strong currents through channel so very fortunate to at least found the body for the sake of the grieving family
