I just purchased a new Petrel and had signed up last week for the news letter on Shearwater's site. I got the same email yesterday. I responded and got the usual email back where you have to acknowledge it again. Didn't appear to be fishy.

Yes it is. Hopefully the new legislation will prevent at least some spam.
