Just got back from the Similans.

Weather was reasonable , it rained a couple of times but not for prolonged periods. It was good enough that I slept on deck one evening.

Waves got up to about 3m but this wasn't really a problem or even that uncomfortable.

There weren't that many Big fish around but we did see some interesting stuff , Bump Headed Parrot Fish ( I missed it) , 3 Eagle rays ( I missed them) and a probable Ocellated Lion Fish.

We also saw Octopus , Turtles , Morays etc

Hi to you, the Hamburger...

Could you tell me a bit more about the trip ? I would love to go there, and I just die to hear a bit more on how was the place (landscape), the corals etc etc

:)

ThanX in advance !

Glad to hear you had a great time! Which sites did you hit? How many days were you there? What boat were you on?

Would you go again? I would love to hear some details so I can compare it to my trips there! (3 so far!)

Thanks,

RedRover

Glad to hear it is possible to dive Similans so late in the year... Whaddaya mean you missed the eagle rays??????? ;-0

Only three weeks till my departure to the Land of the Midnight Sun... :cold:

Cheers!

Similians will be my next trip in Feb. 2003, been to Phi Phi and Koh Tao last year, can't wait till my vacation time arrive. also, how do you rate from Similians to Koh Tao and Phi Phi, any feedback would be appreciate.

Similans is considered one of the best in Thailand. :) But thankfully that is not all Thailand has to offer. As you said there is Koh Tao, Phi Phi, and also Trang within the South of Thailand region.

The main difference would be that the Similan/ Surin Islands are almost always liveaboards while the others are usually land based.

Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are great sites to dive for the phuket region. From what I hear, Phi Phi is becoming way too commercialised and the dive sites are overcrowded during the peak period.

I am tryng to do a short write up on these dive sites in Thailand, nto yet complete yet though, but you sure can take a look at www.wetworksscuba.com . :)
