Hi there

I am new to scuba diving... taking the NAUI course. I am half way through. I was having trouble doing the mask removal, and breathing underwater without taking shots of water up my nose... I went to a pool almost eveynight this week... I think I have managed to get a hang of it...
This morning I woke up with a bruise like pain in my eyebrow and cheek. It hurts to touch... does this sound like a sinus problem? I have the deepend of the pool part of my in pool course on sunday, we are doing buoyancy and sinus clearing exercises.... is this going to be a problem...

...help!

Sounds like it may be a sinus infection.
Best to talk to your instructor and may have to postpone the dive until it clears up.
May also check with your Physician and possibly a ENT specialist.

Dive safe,
Tom

Hi Lassy,

I've had a few sinus infections that started out with the same kind of symptoms. Tender to the touch above and around the eye. I ignored these warning signs once - and ended up first in line at the Drs office the following morning. My eye and the surrounding tissue were visibly swollen, the eye itself was red and teary - not a pretty picture. And, oh yeah, THE PAIN!!! - she had to give me some decent strength codeine just to make life manageable for a day or 2 until the antibiotics kicked in.

So, yes it sounds like it could be a sinus infection. I've had 2 other sinus infections since then and you can be assured that I don't let it get beyond what you are noticing now - I learned my lesson. Run, don't walk, to the Drs office.

Hope it clears up quick :)
