have some questions;1) online classes are there books or manuals availible for future ref after the class?looking at nitrox, and deep diver.2)lds train sdi and padi if intructor is padi am i padi or sdi?looking at future classes after some time hoping dm maybe int for next career.thank you

A PADI instructor must issue a PADI cert unless it's a referral sent back to another shop. And yes you can buy the books from your lds for reference later on. Be prepared to pay about 50 bucks. Or you could get a better reference from amazon that will not have all the advertising to sort through. Get a copy of Dennis Graver's "Scuba Diving" A used one will set you back 15 bucks or so plus shipping. Much more info and easy to understand yet not dumbed down.

Hi Don:

You can purchase student manuals as future reference for Scuba Diving International specialties that you have taken online... cost is less than JimLap's cited price. But you have access to the online program as a refresher once you've completed the course... just go back to the site and log in.

Your Local Dive Store teaches SDI and PADI and usually this means instructors are registered to teach both. When you buy a program make sure you enroll in an SDI program taught by an active SDI instructor, if that is your choice.

To meet the prerequisites for leadership (DM, AI and Instructor) SDI recognizes certs from other RSTC members, but I've found instructor candidates who have worked through our system to reach leadership have a slight advantage over those from other systems... especially those who have been active AIs with experience making classroom presentations and having run full specialties.

Thanks and good luck.

Not at all. Many instructors teach programs for more than one agency. However, students must be certified under the auspices of the agency whose program they purchased... and of course, the instructor must have current teaching status with the agency in question.
