Does anyone know of operators who do multiple daily dives to the Spiegel Grove?? Thanks for the info.

I used Scuba Do they were a nice outfit and a small boat. They have daily trips to the grove and best of all a small uncrowded boat. Crowds are not my thing as you can tell. Good luck and while you are there you should try to see the Duanne.

Try these guys. They will even let you do two dives on the Grove in one trip.(after a 1 hour SI).

Most operators will insist the second dive be a shallow reef.

Out of curiosity. How deep is the Spiegel Grove. How about the Duanne.

You can rech parts of the Grove at about 45 - 50 ft. You can have a nice dive without going deeper than 100 ft. I've not been there, but I'm told the bottom is approximately 130 ft.

You'll reach the crows nest of the Duane around 65 ft (it's been a while, so I could be off some), but you want to plan for 100 - 105 ft which is where you'll find the main deck. Approximately 120 ft to the sand, but you'll have more fun staying at the main deck or above.

Very close inshore of the Duane is its sister ship, the Bibb. While the Duane is upright, the Bibb sits on its side, making it a more advanced dive. It's in 130 - 135 ft of water.

The Eagle off Islamorada is my favorite, sitting on its starboard side in 105 - 115 feet. Sank in 1985, it was torn in half and moved around some by hurricane Georges in 1998. Georges was a powerful hurricane (winds up 135 knots - catagory 4), but had weakened (winds of 90 knots - catagory 2) by the time it struck Key West on September 25. As a catagory 2 storm 90 miles away, it ripped the 287 foot long steel freighter in half at 100 ft in depth. Gives me renewed respect for hurricanes.

Of the 4, the Grove is the least interesting and the Eagle by far the most, IMHO.

How can you say the Grove isn't interesting??

I think it is an absolute awesome sight just because of the size of the darn thing! I don't know...guess we just have different tastes...

Its size is the reason it's less interesting (I wouldn't quite go uninteresting) but you can't see near it all, heck you can barely see across the beam to the sea floor sometimes, it's just so big you lose some of the features that make wreck diving really freaking cool.

IMO the Duane is the best rec wreck in the Upper Keys, the Eagle second then the Grove (Bibb is not really a rec dive).

In my opinion the Spiegel Grove is a best wreck dive off the Upper Keys. There was a tremendous amount of Sea Life on the wreck this fall!

Great videos, Glenn. Thanks for sharing them with us.

If you don't mind, I'd like to link to them from http://www.DeepSouthDivers.org . Let me know.

This is the first video I've seen with a narrative... I wasn't crazy about it for the first minute, but really began to enjoy it. I think it's a great idea... What's especially cool was that you used it sparingly... Right around the time I was wondering, "What is that?" You'd be explaining it. :) Nicely done.

I'll be on the 'Grove the entire weekend of the 26th; your vids are a great preview.

With out dive styles so radically different, I'm inclined to begin picking on the differences. :) But it'd just be in fun.

Seriously great videos. :)

How long have you and your wife/friend been diving?

Hello SeaJay,

Thanks for the compliment! You are welcome to link to my videos.

I have been diving since 1967, almost 40 years. I mostly did a lot of free diving and spearfishing. I still do a lot of free diving because I go to the Bahamas, I usually do one tank dive, and then free dive the rest of the day. Free Diving 50 feet is still easy for me!

My wife has been diving since we got together 25 years ago!

We are on our way to Hawaii to do a little relaxing and diving (our Xmas present to ourselves)!

You might want to check out my pics and video of the

What I found in June 2003 in the Exumas and Cat Island in the Bahamas was heart breaking. You are welcome to link to the web as well.

Best Regards,
Glenn
