A frind of mine returned from Cayman Brac recently with a video showing, among other things, a dive master squirting some sort of yellow dye on the outside of a sponge. A moment later the dye emerged like a column of smoke out the center of the sponge. Pretty neat trick, but what kind of dye can he be using that doesn't harm the sponge? Or doesn't it?

I've seen people use food coloring. Ideal would be water based and biodegradable.
