no, typically people hold reel in left hand and reel clockwise. The reel obviously doesn't care which way you reel in, but clockwise tends to be more natural.
 
Clockwise in, counterclockwise out.

Pretty standard.
 
You've got to perfect the technique of; start spooling in clockwise, observe line is too loose, unwind, start counter clockwise, stop, restart clockwise, drop spool, catch, wind clockwise......drop bolt snap.........borrow boltsnap from spare mask, lock, place in pocket........re spool after dive in garage.
