This might seem like a dumb question but here goes.
I have always used a reel on my DSMB but now I have a spool.
How do you keep the line from unraveling?

Use the Double ender you should be carrying your spool with. Twist the line twice on the hook, and clip it to the spool.

In storage? In use?

Spool knitting is your answer...

One of the biggest issues seen is too much line on the spool. There should be 1/2 a hole visible on the spool rim with it "full".
I have a 100 ft. Halcyon Defender Pro, it's the one with the little side handle. The line comes within a 1/4" of the Edge of the spool, so the holes are covered by the line.

Pulling 30ft of line off makes it easier. Otherwise you can jam a double ender through
