My wife and I are looking at each getting a knife. We're in the process of buying some of our essential gear (knives, lights, gloves, hoods, compass, etc.), but we already have the other major pieces of equipment. Does anyone have any recommendations for great knives (that aren't too expensive)?

Why not look at a pair of shears instead? They will cut through steel leaders on fishing line, something that gives a knife fits.

Scuba.com has them and I'm sure scubatoys here and divesports.com do as well. Ask about a Scubaboard discount wherever you order from

Edit, found the link for Scubatoys shears.

I don't use my knife for digging or anything like that. So I use razor sharp steak type knives with the tips cut off (blunt). Like this: https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?product=54

Goes on the waist webbing of my backplate.

If you lose one or it gets rusty after 3 or 4 years just pick up a new 4 pack at Kmart or someplace for $4.99 or so. Instead of $100 titanium swords sometimes simple is more than adequate.
