Surface Markers, Lift Bags, etc. What gives?

I was taught by an old timer LOL, friend of mine. He told me when you shoot a bag, say from a wreck. You thread the reel line UNDER a piece od smooth wreckage, then attach it to your lift bag. He told me to do it this way in case the bag gets away from you in a run away ascent you get pulled DOWN to the bottom , you don't shoot up with your bag and have a possible catastrophy.
