Good names to recall, and all contributed more than their share to the growth of SB. I like the "Mayberry to NYC" analogy-it wraps up both the good and not-so-good changes here.
A toast to the past-and to the future!

I'm an old timer (but certainly not close to an "original") and I certainly don't long for the "old days" (even in my life). Kudos to all for what this site has become... the single greatest way to avoid work other than actually going diving! Oh, wait... I tell my "boss" being here is work.

... A decade later and I still can't escape that...
Escape it???????
HHaarrr!
It'll go on your tombstone!

Sorry Bill, in the dictionary beside the word original, there is a picture of you. I also found it besides a few other entries namely curmudgeon, over-the-hill and "Mr Holy Wet Suit". :D

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, NetDoc! Haha! A decade later and I still can't escape that. What is with this :mooner:? LMAO!

And HELLO GUYS! It's good to hear from you all.
Greg, the Warhammer is one of the most searched for topics here on ScubaBoard. Its the stuff legends are made of and you can even find references to it in some Scuba Related Humor like "Hitler Isn't AOW". See how many ScubaBoard references are in this:

I've always worried that this is why Greg doesn't come back very often. Look at all the crap he gets from it. :D

I think the appropriate word to describe the original layout is basic.

You can see a screenshot of the site from August of 2000, a few weeks after it had gone live and with just 121 members total at http://www.moderninsider.com/history/scubaboard2000.jpg

By sept of 2001 we were up to 1,750 users, 6,800 in sept of 2002 and 16,700 in sept of 2003. In 2004 [32,000 members] the layout finally got a major update with the launch of a new vBulletin forum version bringing things closer to what you see today. 2005-2006 is when much of the major changes took place and SB started to enter the dive industry as a brand at events and shows [kuddos to NetDoc for giving me a second run on SB] and of course since then things have just grown and grown.

11 years and change since we started warming up the engines... Almost 11 years to the day for you specifically.

Ted,

I still remember how the early board served us so well as an "on-line dive shop" where we could share info anytime, day or night. And the early gang seemed to have very similar senses of humor that made most threads both informative and a hoot to read. We all seemed to subscribe to the notion that scuba was serious business (from a safety perspective), but we did not take ourselves too seriously.

The other issue that simply stands out for me...and I mentioned this to NetDoc...back when--most of us felt competetent enough, as divers, to comment on virtually any thread. Nowadays, there are so many specialized categories and so many truly competetent specialists that it would be nearly impossible to participate universally. Like they used to say in a song, "You've come a long way, baby!" And I knew NetDoc when he was just a Net and not a Doc!

But, NetDoc, where is the Geriatric Divers Section????

And it is good to hear from you and some of the old gang...I hope everyone in our old gang is still getting wet and enjoying the best that Mother Nature has to offer.

joewr...OF and proud to wear the t-shirt...even if it has a few coffee dribbles on it...and this spot is still for rent, lease, or time share...

Unbelievable! Totally unbelievable! IquanaDon has marred me for life. I popped on here one night a few months back for the 1st time in years. I poked around for a little while and decided to see what was up in the chatroom. Almost instantly upon entering, the guys there were asking about it. But no, it's all good, and has nothing to do with me dropping off the radar for so long. Life happened, is all.

You guys ever hear from IquanaDon and/or Mario?
