superstar:
all that wasted gear for a 28' deep reef dive off a cattle boat when all you needed was a cheap un-balanced reg, a jacket BC, and a speedo.

Speedos are never the right exposure gear.... for men anyways

OH-JJ:
Speedos are never the right exposure gear.... for men anyways

they aren't  UH-OHH

...And then after you've purchased all that gear...you realize all you REALLY wanted to do in the first place was dive above 100' and that your first set of gear would have been just fine. That's like watching someone climb into Edmonds UP in doubles....pfffft...LOL.

Cheers,
Austin

There are places where you would get exactly the same looks in your shorts as you would give some one here in their speedo.......go figure:blinking:

This would be funny if it were funny.

:rofl3:

Well, if you had talked to those other divers first, you could avoid the poodle jacket and the cheapo regs.

The AL80's can still be used as stages and deco tanks.

The pony makes a great O2 deco bottle.

The drysuit is just one more in your arsenal of exposure protection.

You listened to the wrong people. You didn't need that computer anyway.

Everyone needs nitrox (you forgot advanced nitrox) and deco and (you forgot intro to trimix) and trimix anyway, right? right? That's what I keep telling my wife anyways!

Dude,

I've got some beach front property that [-]I'm selling[/-] you need to buy.

:D

Soon after getting your OW qual, you eagerly go out and buy a wet suit, BC and AL 80 with Octo and show up at your local dive spot eager and ready to dive.

"Yeah, that's OK gear, but you really should have a steel tank for extra gas. You know... Safety first."

So you buy a steel tank and head back out...

"Better,... but you really should have a redundant Pony as well... You know... Just in case."

So you buy a Pony and a second reg...

"What, you are still diving tables?"

Computer purchase through the LDS...

"Looking good, but don't you think a dry suit would be more appropriate for these conditions."

You pick up a dry suit...

"Man you are looking great, but not with that BC... You really need a wing and backplate system."

More money for those items...

"Cool, but if you are diving with a Pony, you would be much better off with doubles..."

You pick up doubles and a manifold...

"Doubles, with those regs...!?"

One high-efficiency "name" reg purchase later...

"That isn't how you rig that... You are going to have to change your whole configuration if you want to look like a pro."

Several clips, bands, hoses, lights and harnesses later...

"Dude, why have the doubles if you don't put NITROX in them?"

A bit later...

"Hey... Slick looking rig. You are in on the basic DECO course next weekend, right? You only need to pick up 4 stage bottles and a multi-gas computer..."

Cha-ching...

"NITROX? We use Trimix for all the really cool wrecks..."

(Let's fast forward a few more thousand dollars...)

"OK, now before we do our second CCR dive on the Doria..."

I don't know what ya'll are talking about...there is no slippery slope for me.

But then, that's because my wife keeps close tabs on the debit cards and checking account! I guess you could say that I've hit "the plains" where things are nice and flat.

I wanted to put most of my diving money (what there is of it) into travel anyway. ; )

"I suppose next I'll get into yachting, perhaps?"

Didn't you know that the word 'boat' is really an acronym?

Obviously (as per the smiley), I wasn't serious; however, I do have relatives with boats of several types. (Including a sailboat, an 85' motor yacht, and a Navy surplus supply ship that they and another family are converting into a houseboat -- it has a *helipad* on the back... a small one, but a *helipad*!)

If I get into yachting, it'll be because I went to visit. :D (I'm just a starving freshwater diver, at least most of the time.)

That said, how much is a PSI cylinder inpector course? My tanks are going to start coming up for vis soon. :D
