making shoes is not a service job. like i wouldn't tip the cheeseheads that made my thorogoods either.

iirc most guides/instructors are paid on commission like independent contractors that tips are probably factored in to get to that range of 800 to 1k per month. and the local boat crew are probably making half that.
Same logic. I don't think customer service jobs stand out differently than shoe-making, but again it's just a personal opinion.
 
i have been in the service industry for over 30 years. that includes my real job and working for a dive shop. i can count on one hand when i have ever received a tip. and that includes when i was interning at the dive shop and working for free.
