One point to consider is that everything that goes underwater, with time it will be covered with molluscs and shellfish. There should be a regular maintenance diver to clean the glass of the window that opens the camera to the open sea.
The rest are only technical challenges that can be solved, specially if there is money available.

True about maintenance - from my test cleaning will be required once a week or two.
Money - that's what I'm working on... :)
 
Very nice! You can really notice the wide view near the end of the video when you're up near the surface pointing the camera at the breakwater and you can see the blocks stretching out in both directions. Imagine having one of these cameras at popular dive sites all over the province. No-guessing visibility reports.

Yes, camera can stream video up to 2048x1536 (3.1mpx) video and has 180 degreees viewfield... Everybody likes the idea, but almost nobody wants to sponsor such projects. That's the main reason why camera isn't yet installed.
