I love the T&Cs, we have been to Provo twice and did 2 liveaboard trips and they were wonderful. I have often recommended a T&C liveaboard to individuals looking for excellent Caribbean diving, beautiful walls, and abundant large animals. So in the spirit of full disclosure, I am posting the link to this recent US State Department warning about crime and violence against tourists in the T&C islands - I am really sad to read it.

Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Turks & Caicos, Violent Armed Robberies in Providenciales

I thought T&C is (was) known to be one of the safer destinations in the Caribbean area. I've been there twice in the last two years and felt totally safe. Good to know.

Thanks for the heads up. Been there twice and enjoyed our stays. Googling crime in Providenciales pulls up a number of disturbing stories. The most concerning is on the T&C official website about crime. May put T&C on the back burner for a while.

My wife and I have been there 5 times and this trend really saddens me. We have always felt safe walking around town and never had any problems.

FWIW, here is the link to the Government of Canada travel page for TCI.

I'be already booked a trip, will be staying on Provo, can you recommend a dive shop, dive locations and spots that I shouldn't miss out of the water?

Thanks in advance

Haven't been to T&C yet and the Canadian advisory for personal safety is troubling. At 67 I still have good strength but I don't run so fast anymore. We will probably pass on T&C for the time being. Coz is calling me home.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but at least they don't seem to be targeting tourists.

Travel Warning for MX

Quintana Roo (includes Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, and Tulum): U.S. citizens should be aware that according to Government of Mexico statistics, the state of Quintana Roo experienced an increase in homicide rates compared to 2016. While most of these homicides appeared to be targeted criminal organization assassinations, turf battles between criminal groups have resulted in violent crime in areas frequented by U.S. citizens. Shooting incidents, in which innocent bystanders have been injured or killed, have occurred.

I've never felt in danger in Cozumel. Never seen any kind of crime while I've been there. I think it's a good deal different than the mainland.

I was robbed in Cozumel, a pickpocket at the airport took my wallet - but I know that could happen at any airport. My license and other cards (all cancelled and replaced with much inconvenience) were found in Texas several months later.

I never felt in personal danger while in Cozumel but I haven't been there in a long time. I hope that it is still the lovely friendly place that I remember and that crime against tourists doesn't become more commonplace.
