I am looking to do DSD’s in a pool for a non profit. Do you guys think eBay purchases for Reg’s and BCD’s would be fine as they as they are serviced? I’m pretty sure I can service them myself as I have been through the equipment specialist class. I already have tanks, some BCDs etc. there are no local shops outside an hour one way for me. Thoughts?

if you are confident servicing them, i don't see why not. but make sure you are covered as far as your insurance for liability reasons. that will likely require you to be a certified service technician for the brand of reg/bcd you are using/servicing.

So I need to stick to all one brand? First I heard this. Or I could have a local shop service them

The "equipment specialist" course doesn't qualify you to do service/overhaul on regulators AFAIK. You will need to take a regulator service course that is specific to the brand you are going to be servicing in addition to having all pertinent diagrams, service manuals, technical bulletins, specialized tools, mentoring by an experienced technician, lots of studying of regulator design and service theory manuals and proper and relevant certification(s).

So what are your thoughts, rent?

your profile says you are a DM, so are you affiliated with a shop? might be easiest to just work something out with them where the shop endorses these DSDs and lets you use their rental gear in exchange for you referring people from this program to take OW with the shop.

Probably especially if it is a one time event. There are several factors here that include if you are working with a local dive center, are you charging participants any fees, are you going to be doing this on regular basis and other factors specific to your situation.

Yes. I am planning on DSDs to raise money for the non profit

Charge money and run them on regular basis? If yes for both, then buy new from a local dive center if available who will most likely give you a good deal if you are going to be buying several sets and show them that they will benefit from your DSD. You can also buy used and have them serviced before use (make sure that you buy same brand and model so that to reduce your maintenance costs and make it much easier to service them at a single service center).

BTW, are you a certified and current instructor or a DM with current insurance?

I’m a DM. Haven’t gotten insurance yet since I’m trying to figure out independent vs through a shop.
