Does anyone know why there is typically a groove around the "tank banger" on a dive knife? Better acoustics maybe?


Yes I'm a little bored today. :D
 
On the butt end of many dive knifes is a metal stub that can be used to bang on a tank to make noise. Many of them have a groove that runs around it. I was just wondering why the groove would be there.
