Using inserts

My fins are size L and I've been using them with a 5mil hard sole boot. I would like to use a thinner boot without the hard sole, have bought inserts and plan on shopping for my new boots with the inserts for best fit.

My question is, for those that are using inserts, do they compress underwater or should I expect the same fit of the boot that I get on land underwater as well.

They do not compress very much, if at all. You will not notice any difference in fit.
