Try as I may, I cannot get my Smart Z to download via the infrared dongle, to my laptop, or directly to my pda via the built-in ir port.

I am stuck... manually transcribing the dive info.

This is not what I had hoped for.

Anyone with similar woes... and a solution?

Send the computer back to Scubapro for a replacement. That's what they did when the IR port stopped working on my Aladdin Tec computer.

Assuming that your IrDA dongle is working correctly, then the next step would be to verify that the Smart Z is capable of associating with it. I'm not familiar with the Smart Z, but the Tec 2G displays an icon when it senses an IrDA device.

You might be able to verify the connection from the PC side. Navigate to Control Panel -> Wireless Link -> Infrared Tab. Check the box titled "Play sound when Infrared device is near by". Make sure the sound on your PC is enabled; turn on the Smart Z and point it's IR port toward the IrDA dongle.

If you are able to verify the connection, then possibly your problem is just procedural. For example the Tec 2G has to be placed in Dive Log mode in order to download dives from SmartTRAK. Of course you won't find this mentioned anywhere in the user's manual :shakehead:

Good luck.

I had the same problem with my Smart Z and desktop. I was however able to get to upload to my Treo but I had to fiddle with the distance and angle between the two devices at first. Now I can just transfer the dives to the desktop when I sync the phone. I actually like this better as I can view the profiles on site.

Similarly, when I tried to get my SmartCom to upload it wouldn't work. I was told that McAfee virus protection did not work with IR. I changed to Norton and it has worked perfectly since.

Hi Scott:

I have been syncing my UWATEC with lap top and Treo via IR, for the past year and a half, and it works great. The only issue I have encountered is that the IR ports need to be lined up very close and directly facing each other. Software works wonderfully, and I have had none of the problems I encountered with my Oceanic Veo cable and software.
