Hey Guys, i have a guy named Bill Parker who is wanting to go to Valhalla, but is looking for a buddy. Here's his email, anybody who is ok with diving with him, give him a message! He's looking to use nitrox and lives in Hurst, so anybody wanting to carpool let him know!

A handle would be nice to contact the diver. Right now I am planning solo and nitrox, but am open to diving with others after discussion.

Whoops, sorry Grumpy!

Did anyone get directions or the name of the road that intersects 277 near the silo?

Did anyone get directions or the name of the road that intersects 277 near the silo?

Look for a post on page nine of this thread. (I can't repost the link
scubaboard.com won't let me until I have enough posts.) There is
a link to the coordinates on google maps of the silo. Google street
maps covers this area. Using street maps I was able to tour 277
just North of the silo. If you do this you can see that the windmill
farms are clearly visible from the road. So I think the way to
navigate is head South on 277 from Abilene and look for the wind
farm. That will tell you you're getting close. Then look for the
red/white striped diver flag on the left. Please someone correct
me if I'm wrong.

Hey, great to see you online Bill.

The diver flag will do it, I did not realize it was marked and was worried about how to see it since the entrance is just a small shack.

Thanks

Hey Psiborg,

I just want to publicly say THANK YOU! The dives at Valhalla were unique and fun. It was a nice experience and possible only with someone like you willing to step up and organize it.

Doug / Grumpy

I second the motion. Thanks to Travis for organizing this
and thanks to Doug for being my dive buddy. It is a
truely unique dive site. Sort of like a night dive on the
wreck because you have to watch out for the unstable
junk on the bottom. Perhaps more trecherous than a
wreck because the bottom debris were just dumped there
and nothing ever held it together except gravity. I saw
heavy steel I-beams sitting on relatively flimsy things like
A/C ducts. And also like a cave because it's always dark
and keeps you from doing a daylight dive or snorkel
before the night dive to get familiar with the area. And
also at altitude and chilly 60F fresh water. Really weird
conditions. Pretty freaky on the bottom because the
murk and lack of light puts you in another world. I had
the notion of doing one dive just so I could say I did it.
The second dive was better because I knew more what
to expect. I really enjoyed the second dive. It was fun
exploring the debris at the bottom. Pretty cool dive if you
live close enough to drive it and be back in a weekend. I
might even be back next winter if there's nothing to do
and I'm out of vacation time.

I'll third that.....
The son and I had a good time. It was a good first 100+ dive for him.
Man, every year those steps from the platform in the water to the landing get longer and longer.

Travis, did you ever get to dive your double hose? I hope the cleanup didn't keep you too late. Be sure to get the tee shirt.

Thanks again, it was fun.

:)

Aw, thanks Doug, Bill, n Marvin!

It was a blast! I always enjoy the diving there, and i liked meeting you guys. I also shot some video of the site and the wreckage, hopefully i'll have that up in the next few weeks.

No, Marvin, unfortunately by the time we finished painting ( we painted over all the real graffiti also) and we finished our first dive ( me and a buddy of mine did some deco ) Everybody just wanted to go home. I wanted to dive, but i also didn't want them to mutiny, so they bought me lunch on the away back instead. It's all good, it'll still be there next year and Mark said we were welcome to come back whenever we wanted.

and wait...what t-shirt?!

Hopefully when we go back next year there'll be a dumbwaiter there for us to use.....
