Went diving yesterday and notice a small leak around the base of the air knob. Its a. 1972 scuba pro LP 77. Anyone know the neck thread size or is it the same as new valves? Can they be rebuilt?

If it's leaking around the handle you don't need to remove the valve (or drain) to fix the packing around the stem.....but yes new valves will fit your tank.

The packing and O-ring, if it has one, are the same as any new valve from Thermo or Sherwood. From that time, I'll bet it has both a teflon packing and an O-ring. Clean the packing and replace the O-ring and you should be good to go. If there is no leaking when the valve is closed, there should be no need to change the valve seat.

When you get the valve bonnet off, there may be a copper washer/gasket - that should be replaced also.
