comments in the "when do you do a valve drill" thread prompted this question.
Do you turn your valve and isolator knobs all the way in the open direction when diving?
I have received instruction that it is better to only turn the knobs 1.5 turns to the open direction. this is based on
1) the design of the valve is such that once the knob has been rotated 1-1.5 times the valve will fully flow (IOW after 1.5 turns the valve is fully open). turning the valve any more will not increase the flow capability of the restriction,
2) closing a valve in an emergency is MUCH quicker when you only have to turn it 1.5 turns rather than 6 or seven. this might save you several seconds of gas loss.
