Listing to talk radio yesterday and Dr. Dean go on to a question about viagra. I wasn't listening much until he said that viagra was developed to improve the gas exchange of the blood vessels in the lungs, not what it is so widely used for now.

I'm curious if anyone else heard the same show or has more to throw on the fire. If viagra improves our lungs ability to exchange gasses it seems that this would be a good thing. So now along with the dramamine the night before....

I must admit I shudder at the thought of a Buncha guys in tight wetsuits hopped up on Viagra...

On a serious note, very interesting question. Dunno how I'd 'splain to the wife why I need to pop a V to go diving :)

Now Dr. Dean was very careful to point that the drug only makes certain things possible and your mind controls what happens...I think I will pick some different dive buddies.

Off to the medical forum now..

PS: Maybe we will need a new group of tables for "with" or "without" Viagra.
And the ever present excuse “I don’t take it for THAT honey…it’s for my diving, yes my diving!
And the question of what to do on those long deco stops.
OH Man can we have fun with this one...
Dam! Now look what youv'e done!

I'm not convinced it would be a good thing . . .

Wouldn't it increase your bodies uptake of N2 during the dive? That would be bad.

Also, would it have any repercussions on O2 toxicity when diving deep, or with nitrox, or both?

Maybe that could explain a recent hit where the O2 exposure was supposedly never over 1.2, let alone up to the 1.4 or 1.6 planning limit.???

CNS came up on the Dr. Decompression forum as well.
I wonder if there will be a market for viagra modified deco tables.
But I'm curious how quickly it takes to have its effect.

"bottom times up...time to pop my little pill and head up"

Oh...that's right...no heavy physical exertion OR warm showers...DAMMMM

Typically pills take minimum of 20 to 40 minutes to take effect. So, maybe right as you get ready to hop in the water? Deep dives maybe 10 minutes before splashing?
