Has anyone out there ever stayed at the Playa Miguel houses(specifically house #11) that CoCo View uses for their overflow/wait list guests? There wasn't any availibility at the resort the weeks we can go but they said they could book us in one of the houses adjacent to the resort for the same price. How far away are they? Anyone have any input? Or should we try to go to a different resort? Thanks for any advise!

The Beach Houses are nice they are all privately owned. We have never stayed in them but know a couple of folks that own them. See some of them here http://www.roatan.com./catalog/honduras/hframeset.htm look on the left side of the webpage and click on Playa Miguel Beach Beach Houses

They are not that far away a 5 minute walk. The resort and the beach houses are on a cay away from the main island so the area is not that large. They do provide bicycles to ride if you don't want to walk.

If you have more questions or want more detail about the beach houses come on over to the CCV msg board here http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/ccv

It a great board and a lot of fun. We just got back from CCV and already have our next trip booked for May.

When are you going??
Ann

We stayed in Beach House #8 on our trip to Coco View in May and absolutely enjoyed it. The staff was great and whenever we needed anything all we had to do was aske and they got if for us. Only drawback some may see is the distance from the main area of the resort, but they do provide bicycles for getting there and back.

If you want to go to Roatan/Bay Islands, and if diving is your priority, go to CocoView. Why do you think it's booked?

Book the Beach House, but if you would rather be in the main part of the resort, let them know that- they will move you as space becomes available.

Plus side to Beach Houses: You are in your own, private home designed for enjoyment of the beachfront property. You should take the resort meal plan, but know that the staff can stock your pantry with whatever extras you might like to have for your kitchen. Bicycles are avaialble for a short pedal along the hard flat sand "road" (2 minutes max from farthest out to resort).

Plus side to the Cabanas (C1-C12), Bungalows (A-D) on CCV itself: They are on stilts over an active changing reef. A boardwalk connects them. You are seconds away from the main clubhouse, the shore dive is at your feet, the dive op is no further away than 1 minute walk. Some have mini fridges, some have king sized beds.

Plus side to the "on shore" units (#13-21), 10 feet from the ocean edge: You could hang meat in them with the greater insulation provided by the concrete walls, the upper unit balconies offer spectacular views of the sunsets and the 'front yard', and the lower units are largely handicapped accessable.

In general, don't fret. Go, take a look, decide what you might like next time... oh yes, there will be a next time. Most of us never go any one place more than once... except for CoCoView.

Good advice, go join in at CoCoChat at http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/ccv

Thanks for the advice, Doc. We had decided that CoCo View was the place we wanted to go, largely because of all of the posts on this board and at the CCV chat we've been reading over the last year, several of which were yours. If the most "seasoned" divers go there again and again, and if they're always booked, it's got to be because it's pretty darn good. We figure it's a win/win situation no matter where they put us to sleep. We're booked the week of July 17th. (Sort of last minute but we had to sell our house first.) I'm just happy they can take us at all!

Hey Rosebud,
I'll be there that week, too!!! I keep reading the CCV chat and here looking for someone else who will be there the same time. Our flight leaves early that Sat. morning (2 am - yuck!), so we get in around 9 am on the 16th. There are 5 of us, staying in 3 of the oceanfront rooms. I'll keep an eye out for you!
