International is NOT the problem. El cheapo snail mail is the problem. Cheap takes time. I have bought items from china, israel, Germany, Australia, England, USA and even Canada. Never had an issue since I always request shipping via a service that provides a tracking number. That way I can watch the progress of my package. I also always ship the same way. That way I know when the package arrived.

From what I remember there was not a substantial savings from using the boat rather than airmail. It was less than $5. He did not want to pay the custom duty or the VAT and felt that if it went by boat he wouldn't have to.

Well actually I have never had the choice of transport method. Just cost, delivery time and tracking #. I am often surprised that when I pick the slower delivery, it still ends up airmail.

Duty has traditionally been the buyers problem. I hate the new eBay global delivery system as it guarantees that I pay duty. I would rather just take my chances and pay later if required. Has never happened yet. So I am ahead of the game.
