Hi all,

My wife has been a real underwater photography enthusiast for some time and has been wanting to get me into it. One of my reasons for staying away from this hobby is the likelihood of an eventual flood and the cost of the equipment replacement when that happens.

The Oly stylus cameras, however, are weatherproof (at least some of them are -- don't know about all of them). While that wouldn't help if there was a major housing flood, I'd think that, in the event of a minor flood, I could get the camera back to the surface before having to replace any gear. It's also my understanding that the vast majority of floods are minor ones.

Does all this make sense? Would the weatherproof cameras be a good way to limit my exposure to flooding? Is there something I'm missing, here?

Thanks!

They may be a good choice if all other things (image quality, manual modes, housing availability etc) are equal.

I still wouldn't bet the farm that they would be fine after a flood at depth, though.

Unfortunately, a flood is simply the risk you take when you choose to take a camera down. Get insurance if you run the numbers and it's a better way to go than simply replacing the camera/housing etc.

This is one of those times that if you want to do it, just do it...and deal with the "bad" stuff later
