Yes, lucky me will be goin to the Bahamas, Nassau, for a WEEK! Quick questions though..

1) Just wondering which dive operator is good to go with? Heard about Stuart's Cove. Are they good operators?
2) How's the water temperature like in early January? Is a 3/2 mm full suit good enough for the water?
3) What else is there to do besides diving?

Thanks for the input!

1. Stuart Cove is about the only show in town. I think there are a couple of smaller operations but Stuart's is the largest. We dove with them last February and we had a good time. They try to match up divers of like skill levels but it can still be a bit of a cattle dive. The shark feeding was fun. If you haven't done one yet I suggest giving it a try.

2. It's typically in the low 70's at that time of year. It depends on you and how much diving you intend to do if a 3/2 is enough. My wife and I did eight dives over two days so we used hooded vests under 3/2 full suits and we were ok.

3. Sight seeing, gambling, dining, drinking, and that's just at Atlantis. I don't think you need to worry though. There's plenty to do on Nassau other than dive.

Have a good trip.

The only other dive operator on Nassau besides charters is Bahama Divers. www.bahamadivers.com They're located at the base of the bridge to Paradise Island. Stuart Cove's picks up in Nassau or on Paradise Island twice daily and shuttles you to their location on the south side.

it was 84 sw degrees there last monday, i dove with a rash guard....fantastic clarity, you might try both, but make sure they will let you dive your air, not their preset dive time...right now is the slow season, summers over and the January folks are not cold up north yet....

Figure water temp at 75 to 76 plus or minus a degree.

As Dragon2115 mentioned Stuart Cove's is pretty much the only operator, but they are not bad for a big operation. Be sure to do the shark dive. Also, I don't know if it is still running, but they used to run a DPV dive a couple of times a week. It is a blast and never crowded as they only take out 6 Divers. They will pick you up and drop you off for free from any resort on the island.

To add to Dragon2115's list of activities is dancing. There are several disco dance clubs hopping to all hours of the night. As there could be 6 to 10 cruise ships in port there is always a party somewhere on or around Bay St or over on Paradise Island. There are two casinos, Atlantis on Paradise Island (probably the coolest casino outside of Vegas) and Crystal Casino on Cable Beach a couple of miles south of Nassau.

Depending on where you stay, its pretty easy to get back and forth from Bay St downtown to Paradise Island via water taxi or taxi. You can catch a cab, bus or rental car back and forth from Cable Beach.
