hi,

Where do people here mainly go diving in the DC/MD/VA area? Are there any decent places within 2 hrs of DC? Also, what/where is Millbrook? thanks!

We mainly go to NC (Cape Hatteras, Morehead City, Beaufort, or Wilmington) or VA Beach. There is nothing within 2 hours of DC except for Millbrook, which is a quarry. You can get to nicer quarries in about 3-3.5 hours (Lake Rawlings - great viz, or Mount Storm - warmer water), but IMHO, looking at drives like that you may as well go to the ocean.

I agree with O-Ring. If you are going to drive three hours to Lake Rawlings, you might as well make it 4 to make it to VA Beach, or 5 to the upper Outer Banks

You could also head north and dive out of Ocean City, MD, Delaware or even parts of NJ.

Millbrook is a decent quarry to practice skills, but thats about it. I have been there the past two weekends and seen one fish... and it was dead.

Do what I plan to do which is move closer to the ocean as soon as possible.

thanks both for the info

I find Millbrook is also a good place to drink beer and bull**** around with other divers.

Yep, it's definitely good for that!

junko:
Are you able to go shore diving off of VA coast, or is it boat only?
You can, but I dunno much about it. If I am not doing a wreck (read as a "cool" wreck), I will save the time/money and just hit Millbrook. I would call Lynnhaven and check with them...I guarantee they can fill you in.

There is some shore diving in Nags Head but I'm not sure about VA Beach.

thanks once again for the info....is millbrook very similar to Dutch Springs ? (DS is the only quarry I've been to.)
