My wife and I have been on a bit of a travel bug this past year. We traveled almost 6months out of the year which being back at home to work for the summer.
We have around 2 months to kill before our work season back at home, so we were planning on going somewhere from Mid Jan - End of March. Generally we have been doing the backpacking thing moving around every little bit, but this time we're thinking of staying put in one area so I can complete my divemasters. My wife is also a diver, but a recreational one at most, so she would only dive a few times a week. During the times she is not diving, she will require an area with wifi and she will be picking up contract work so she can work remotely while I get to dive (pretty good eh?). We are professional wedding photographers here back at home, but since our wedding season is limited mainly to summer time, we've decided to travel in the off season.
So that leaves us with where to go. We've been to Palau, Indonesia, and Philippines earlier this year (I got my EFR+Rescue in Philippines in May). I have just over 100 dives under my belt, which yes I understand to many is not enough to get a divemasters, but I do consider myself a fairly solid diver who is extremely competent. I guess I also enjoy the frequent education that comes with diving, as I believe it makes me a better diver. If I manage to complete my DM in time, I'd like to see if there is a option to work at the same shop after as well (even for a week or two if they are busy enough). I'm also hoping that I can fit in some fun dives, as I am a advid photographer, I'd love to do some dives where I can take my gear down and get some photo/video.
Since my wife is not going to me diving all the time, it would be nice to be in a area that some extra amenities and not JUST a dive spot (ie: the option on making taking some day trips not dive related elsewhere).
Borneo has come up as a potential place to goto and i'm currently looking into dive shops there that I can do my DM. I'd prefer a place that isn't too dead, and also a place that isn't TOO busy. I guess I'm asking for perfection which I know isn't going to happen. I guess I just want to be in a place that will have students so I can get some more experience on the hands on level while doing my training. I hope that makes sense. If anyone has any recommendations for any other spots that would be great.
I completed my rescue course online (which I thought was awesome) and will probably end up doing my DM that way (here at home, as to not waste too much time online while were away).
I only have my own computer (Sunnto D6) and and my mask, but I think I'll finally end up getting my own reg/bcd/boots/fins if I'm going to be diving a lot.
That's about it (not in a nutshell) but any other info you can provide would be great! TIA!
