I think people forget what market of divers Shearwater computers were originally intended for and what the Perdix computer really is. Pre the Teric coming out and Shearwater becoming a mainstream popular brand your average recreational diver had no clue that Shearwater computers even existed but now everyone and there mom has one if not two for there 45min 30m max NDL dive 20 times a year on holiday. So now comes all the request for all the bells and whistles, literally. When Shearwater computer were originally marketed for a very select niche market of technical divers.
Shearwater was making no frills, robust, easy 2 button, mixed gas technical decompression dive computers that met the demands for the advanced technical diver. Remember the Perdix came out in 2015'ish (if my memory is correct, I remember when they came out and I HAD to have one) so my point is its not a new computer and does not have any of the fancy features like a Garmin that includes alarms. The Perdix was just a slimed down version of the Petrel which was just and updated version of the Predator.
Basically not much has changed. The Perdix is simply a glorified Predator which is 15+ year old technology that works well and everyone knows and is familiar with. This follows the KISS rule. So that is why it does not have alarms. Divers that truly use Shearwater computers to there full potential I think would put audible alarms pretty low on the priority list of things to upgrade.
I have been diving rebreathers with hardwired Shearwaters for a while now and have never felt the need for auditable alarms nor would I want them. Plus that is just one more electrical item that can fail and also is one more item that will increase the price on the computer.
If you truly feel like you need alarms then great buy something else other than a Shearwater its that simple. Sunnto makes all kinds of computer that make noise the entire dive if that your thing.
