But seriously... Why not a drysuit?

I wouldn't event think of a wetsuit in those temperatures. Get her a drysuit, take the course, and have happy warm dives, and happy toasty warm surface intervals!!
 
Unless she is very cold tolerant a petite female (small or xsmall) is going to want to cut the dives pretty short in 46F water in a wetsuit and would probably want to sit out any second dive. I am confident a drysuit would provide you with a more enthusiastic buddy.
